Dr. Brian Wong is HKU-100 Assistant Professor in Philosophy at the University of Hong Kong (HKU), where his research examines the intersection of geopolitics, political and moral philosophy, and technology. At HKU, he is also a fellow at the Centre on Contemporary China and the World, sits on the steering committee for the Hong Kong Ethics Lab, and advises the Interdisciplinary Dynamics: Ethics, AI, and Society research centre at the Institute of Data Science. In addition, he is a Non-Resident Honorary Fellow at the Asia Society Policy Institute Centre for China Analysis.
Dr. Wong regularly briefs prominent multinational corporations, hedge funds, family offices, and investors on macro-risks in emerging markets across Asia and Europe. He serves as the Geopolitical Risk Advisor to Blue Pool Capital and Advisor to Chartwell Capital. His other clients have included global and regional boards/leaderships of prominent investment and multinational banks, two of the world’s largest insurance companies, and a Big 4 accountancy firm.
His views have been featured in or cited by prominent outlets including BBC, SCMP, Nikkei, CNN, CNBC, the Financial Times, Al Jazeera, and Politico. He has contributed to the Carter Center U.S.-China Perception Monitor, the U.S.-Asia Law Institute, the Institute of Art and Ideas, and Project Syndicate on a wide range of topics relating to Asian geopolitics.
A Rhodes Scholar (HKSAR, 2020) and Kwok Scholar, Dr. Wong holds a DPhil in Politics from Balliol College, an MPhil in Political Theory with Distinction from Wolfson College, and an MA in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics with First Class Honours from Pembroke College, University of Oxford. He served on the Governing Body of the Oxford Union and co-founded the Oxford Political Review.
